The Empire Riverside Hotel rises on Bernhard-Nocht-Straße, between the Reeperbahn and the Sankt Pauli waterfront. At the very top, on the 20th floor, Skyline Bar 20up occupies a vast, fully glazed space: the windows rise to seven metres and offer an almost all-round view. There is no terrace, which means you can enjoy the panorama in any weather.
The real show is on the river side: the Elbe and its ferries, the ship-repair docks, the gantry cranes of the container port and, further east, the silhouette of the Elbphilharmonie and the spire of the Michel. At sunset, the cranes stand out against the sky, then the port lights up.
House cocktails and a wide selection of spirits
The twenty-metre bar counter offers a menu of house creations between €15 and €17, such as the Park Fiction or the Kentucky Bramble, as well as classics, gin and tonics and a fine collection of rums and whiskies. Alcohol-free cocktails cost €13. The room holds more than 200 people, with a fairly lively soundtrack, and can be booked exclusively for an event; on New Year's Eve, ticketed parties let you admire the fireworks over the port.

Open every day, Sunday to Thursday from 6pm to 1am and Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 1.30am. Table booking online; a dedicated form for groups of ten or more. “Smart casual” dress required: no hoodies, shorts or flip-flops, and the cloakroom is compulsory for coats and backpacks. Limited access for minors in the evening, no dogs allowed. U-Bahn St. Pauli (U3) or S-Bahn Reeperbahn, a few minutes' walk away.
