BLOCKBRÄU: house beer on the roof of the Landungsbrücken
A brewery in the heart of the port
The Landungsbrücken, Sankt Pauli's historic landing stages with their clock tower and pontoons, are one of the busiest places in Hamburg. Since 2012, BLOCKBRÄU has been brewing its own beer here, an unfiltered pale beer and seasonal beers that mature in stainless-steel tanks before being served. The venue can accommodate up to 1,000 guests.
A 1,000 m² terrace facing the Elbe
The venue's big draw is its 1,000 m² panoramic terrace on the roof of the building, next to the stone turrets of the Landungsbrücken. Around 300 seats in the sun look out over the Elbe, the docks on the south bank, the musical theatres and the boats coming and going. Hops are even grown here: the September harvest is used to brew a fresh-hop pale beer, on tap from October. This is not a high-altitude bar: the view is close-up, at port level, and the atmosphere is that of a beer garden.
Brewery fare, grills and waffles
The kitchen serves northern German brewery classics and meats grilled on lava stone. The house beer costs €4.50 for 30 cl and €6.50 for half a litre, and an Aperol Spritz €9. On weekend afternoons, a self-service waffle hut is a hit with families. A beer festival, open-air barbecues and a New Year's Eve party fill the calendar.

From April to October, open every day from 11am to midnight; from November to March, from 11.30am to 11pm. The terrace opens in fine weather. Booking online or by phone. U-Bahn and S-Bahn Landungsbrücken, right next door.
