Das LOFT: Vienna through the windows of SO/ Vienna
A tower by Jean Nouvel
Facing Schwedenplatz, on the other side of the Danube Canal, SO/ Vienna raises its dark silhouette designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. On the 18th and top floor, Das LOFT occupies a vast space with floor-to-ceiling windows. Above the tables stretches a colourful, luminous work by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, which gives the venue its character.
The panorama is breathtaking: on one side, the old town, its rooftops and the illuminated spire of St. Stephen's Cathedral; on the other, the Prater and its Ferris wheel, the Danube and the hills of the Kahlenberg. The room has no terrace, but every table enjoys the windows, and the show is especially beautiful at nightfall.
Restaurant and bar
The day begins with breakfast, served daily. In the evening, the kitchen reinterprets Central European flavours using seasonal produce. A few steps higher up, the bar and lounge serves cocktails, Austrian and international wines and late-night snacks; at weekends, DJs liven things up. On Sundays, brunch is served except during the summer break.
Practical information
Bar open Monday to Thursday and Sunday from 4pm to 1am, Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 2am, no reservations. Restaurant open every evening from 6pm to 10pm, booking recommended; breakfast from 6:30am to 10:30am on weekdays, from 7am to 11:30am at weekends. Expect to pay €18–19 for a cocktail.
