Chez Bernard: Paris meets punk atop the MOTTO hotel

The MOTTO hotel occupies a building on Mariahilfer Straße, Vienna's main shopping street; the entrance is on Schadekgasse. On the 7th floor, Chez Bernard restaurant stretches out beneath tall, pointed glass roofs, amid hanging plants, green velvet banquettes, herringbone parquet and fringed chandeliers. Right next door, the bar has a more intimate feel, with dimmed lighting, hanging glasses and views over the city at sunset.

One floor up, on the 8th, the rooftop terrace opens in the warmer months: a bar, stools and fringed parasols facing the rooftops of Mariahilf, the church spires and, in the distance, vine-covered hills. It has closed for the winter and is due to reopen with full service in spring 2027; in fine weather, it serves drinks and a reduced version of the restaurant menu.

No-fuss cooking

The restaurant focuses on modern, generous cooking that reinvents the classics with quality ingredients: leisurely breakfasts, a weekday business lunch, dinners for sharing, seafood platters and meat dishes. At the bar, a fine wine selection sits alongside signature cocktails. On the 2nd floor, the Bel Étage hosts private events for up to 42 guests.

Restaurant and bar open daily: Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm and from 5:30pm to 1am, Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 3pm and from 5:30pm to 1am. Rooftop terrace open in the warmer months only, weather permitting (reopening planned for spring 2027). Expect to pay €16–18 for a cocktail.
