Verbena Terrace: the green roof of the Monument Hotel
A rooftop above Passeig de Gràcia
The Monument Hotel, a five-star grand luxe hotel on Passeig de Gràcia, is also home to Lasarte, Martín Berasategui's three-starred restaurant. On its roof, on the 6th floor, Verbena Terrace lines up a bar, a chill-out area with sofas and parasols, and tables surrounded by Mediterranean plants. The same terrace has a long outdoor pool lined with sun loungers.
Martín Berasategui's relaxed side
With his head chef Gabriele Milani, Martín Berasategui offers his most relaxed formula here: vermouth, small plates to nibble on, focaccias, sandwiches, salads, ceviches and tartares with a Mediterranean spirit, designed for sharing. On weekdays, a €38 lunch menu includes a starter, main course, dessert, a drink and coffee.
House cocktails and views over the Eixample
The drinks list is long: house cocktails at €19, spritzes from €13 to €15, Catalan and Spanish wines by the glass from €8, cavas and champagnes. From the tables, the view extends over Passeig de Gràcia and the rooftops of the Eixample. In spring and summer, musicians occasionally come to liven up the terrace.
Practical information
According to the hotel, Verbena is open every day from noon to 12.30am; the open-air terrace comes into its own from spring to autumn, so it is best to check before heading up in winter. Bookings online or by phone on +34 935 482 080. Passeig de Gràcia metro (lines L2, L3 and L4) and Diagonal station (lines L3 and L5) are a few minutes' walk away.
