Azimuth: an observatory on the rooftops of the Eixample
A rooftop with a celestial theme
The Almanac Barcelona hotel stands on the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, a stone's throw from Passeig de Gràcia. Its roof, on the eighth floor, is home to Azimuth, an open-air bar designed as an observatory: here the city skyline is read like a star chart, and binoculars set up on the terrace bring the great monuments closer, from the Sagrada Família to the cathedral.
The Sagrada Família in your sights
The decor plays on red and white stripes, curved banquettes, poufs and plenty of greenery. From the bar, your gaze passes over the buildings of the Eixample to rest on the towers of Gaudí's basilica. The rooftop pool is reserved for hotel guests, but the bar and the terrace are open to everyone.
Planet cocktails and a short menu
The house cocktails are named after the planets: Venus, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter or Neptune, at €16 each. The classics, from the negroni to the espresso martini by way of the margarita, cost €15. To go with your drink, the Mediterranean-inspired menu offers Iberian ham croquettes, hummus, guacamole, patatas bravas, salads, a club sandwich or a burger, from €8 for the tomato bread to €38 for the plate of Iberian ham. At weekends, DJs sometimes keep the evening going.
