A rooftop in the heart of shopping Rome
The Hotel Artemide looks onto Via Nazionale, the major shopping street that runs down from Piazza della Repubblica towards the historic centre, a few minutes from Termini station. At the very top of the hotel, Ambrosia divides its space between a dining room with large windows and a terrace that takes in the rooftops of Rome and the bell tower of a nearby church. At the end of the terrace, the chef tends a small vegetable garden whose herbs and vegetables flavour some of the dishes.
Creative Italian cuisine
Chef Massimo Gonnella, in post for a dozen years or so, revisits Italian tradition with spices and modern techniques: meat, fish, fresh pasta and homemade desserts share the menu. A five-course tasting menu is offered at €90, and the wine list has something to go with every dish. With its candles and view over the rooftops, the place lends itself particularly well to romantic dinners.
The cocktail bar
The Rooftop Bar serves aperitifs and signature cocktails devised by Maurizio Zuddio, priced between €18 and €20: Japanese gin and homemade saffron liqueur in the Lumen, sake, shiso and yuzu in the Tetsuya Morimochi, matcha tea and elderflower in the Ambrosia Green. Special evenings punctuate the year, such as a Halloween dinner with live music.
Practical information
The restaurant is open every day from 11am to 11.30pm, and booking is essential for dinner; the bar welcomes guests from 10.30am to midnight, subject to availability.
