Metropolis Roof Garden: the Acropolis above the rooftops of Plaka
At the top of a modernist building
At the start of Mitropoleos Street, between Syntagma Square and the shopping street Ermou, the Electra Metropolis hotel occupies a building designed by the architect Patroklos Karantinos, a leading figure of Greek modernism. Its top level, on the 10th floor, is home to Metropolis Roof Garden: a bright dining room enclosed by large glass windows, extended by a terrace lined with plants.
From the tables, the Acropolis rises above the rooftops of Plaka, with the Parthenon and the Erechtheion clearly visible. The view also takes in the rooftops of the historic centre and the hills that surround Athens. At sunset, when the rock takes on a golden hue, the terrace tables are the most sought after.
Mediterranean cuisine and a bar up high
The menu revisits Greek produce with a creative touch: tuna tartare with Greek salad vegetables, crab dolma with Arta caviar, artisanal orzo with truffle, grouper with lemony peas, lamb fricassée. Expect €18 to €28 for a starter, €30 to €38 for pasta and €32 to €68 for a main course. A vegan menu completes the offer.
The rooftop bar, set around a long illuminated counter facing the Acropolis, serves signature cocktails until 1am. On the same floor, the M Bar offers cocktails by the pool.
