Focal: Greek cuisine and the Acropolis opposite, on Ermou Street
The roof of the Electra Rhythm
At number 5 Ermou Street, the shopping thoroughfare that runs down from Syntagma Square towards Monastiraki, the Electra Rhythm hotel has been completely renovated. At its top, Focal is split between a warm-toned dining room, with banquettes and wooden screens, and a planted terrace edged by a glass balustrade.
From the outdoor tables, the Acropolis rises above the rooftops of the historic centre: the Parthenon and the Erechtheion stand out clearly, and the show continues when the monument is lit up at nightfall.
“Greek soul food” and Greek-style cocktails
Focal describes itself as a house of comforting Greek cuisine: dishes inspired by family recipes and great classics, revisited with seasonal produce and accompanied by a list of Greek wines. The restaurant is open to hotel guests and to Athenians passing by alike, and also offers a menu of bites to go with a drink.
The cocktails play with the country's spirits and flavours: tsipouro and violet, Greek vermouth and mastiha, a honey and olive oil sour. Expect €15 to €16 for most, up to €20 for the signature creations. On Friday and Saturday evenings, a guitar and vocal duo plays from 8pm to 11pm.
