The Parador de Gibralfaro terrace: Malaga at your feet
A lookout at the top of the hill
The Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro, a stone building with arches covered in flowering bougainvillea, occupies the top of Mount Gibralfaro, a few steps from the castle that overlooks the Alcazaba. It is not a building's roof but a terrace perched on the hill: the height comes from the terrain, and the view has nothing to envy the tallest rooftops in the centre.
From the terrace and the neighbouring viewpoint, the eye plunges down onto the port and its cruise ships, the ring of La Malagueta bullring, the seafront towers and the Cathedral rising out of the rooftops, with the mountains as a backdrop. The restaurant, on the first floor, enjoys large windows looking out over the bay.
Malaga cuisine and sharing plates
The Parador's restaurant serves seasonal Andalusian cuisine: gazpachuelo malagueño, ajoblanco, rice in broth, aubergine tempura, kid goat or Iberian presa. Next door, the El Mirador del Mediterráneo space offers a more relaxed menu for sharing, with cheeses from Malaga, porra antequerana, fried cuttlefish or mango and avocado salad. The cafeteria is also a place to simply stop for a coffee or a drink. Allow around €45 to €60 for a full meal.
