Hotel Mundial Rooftop Bar: facing São Jorge Castle

The castle right opposite

Hotel Mundial stands just across from Praça Martim Moniz, in central Lisbon, a few streets from Rossio. Its terrace bar takes up the roof, on the 9th floor. The hill of São Jorge Castle rises directly opposite, and a photo in front of the ramparts is part of the ritual. The view also takes in the rooftops and façades of the Baixa Pombalina, all the way to the Tagus. An indoor room, the RoofSuite, also enjoys the castle view, and one level up, the Premium Space can be booked for private parties and corporate events.

Classic cocktails and petiscos

The menu sorts cocktails into families: sours, spritzes, martinis, great classics and more recent creations such as the Penicillin or the Naked and Famous. Most cost between €12.50 and €13.50, a few up to €17, like the Medronho Sour. There are also mocktails, sangria by the glass or by the jug, Portuguese wines by the glass from €6, ports and champagnes. From the kitchen come petiscos to share, pastéis de bacalhau, croquettes, garlic prawns, veal or tuna pica-pau, then salads, tacos, burgers and a pastel de nata at €3 to finish.

Music at sunset

In the warmer months, the Golden Hour Sessions liven up the terrace on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, with DJ sets and live musicians. The bar also offers happy hours.

Practical information

Open daily from 3.30pm to 11pm; hours may vary with the season and the music programme starts again every spring. No individual bookings: tables are allocated on arrival, so it is best to come early for sunset. Groups book online.
