Carmo Rooftop: the terraces of the Convento do Carmo
A viewpoint laid out in the heart of the Chiado
Behind the Gothic ruins of the Convento do Carmo, which houses the archaeological museum, the city has redeveloped a series of tiered terraces designed by the architects Álvaro Siza Vieira and Carlos Castanheira. Carmo Rooftop has set up its bar and restaurant there, spread over three levels: an upper terrace with kitchen and bar, an intermediate terrace with a green space and lounge, and a lower terrace laid with grass.
The view is one of the most complete in the centre: on one side the metal silhouette of the Elevador de Santa Justa, on the other the walls of the convent, and opposite the hill of São Jorge Castle above the rooftops of the Baixa. As night falls, the panorama takes on a more romantic turn.
Cocktails, small plates and evenings out
The drinks menu mixes classic cocktails and house recipes, served with small plates to share. In summer, open-air cinema screenings are organised; the rest of the time, the music programme ranges from jazz to rodas de samba and DJ sets.
The terraces also host private events and groups, with dedicated menus.
