Entretanto Rooftop Bar: the Chiado from above
A terrace at the top of the Hotel do Chiado
The Hotel do Chiado, a four-star hotel on Rua Nova do Almada, has set up its bar on the top level, on the 7th floor. Simply go up to the 7th floor and walk along a corridor to come out onto a terrace with woven resin armchairs, protected by a glass balustrade. The bar is open to hotel guests and visitors alike.
The panorama is one of the most telling in the centre: opposite, the hill of São Jorge Castle and its ramparts; a little lower down, the two towers of Sé Cathedral; and at the end of the vista, the Tagus estuary. Below stretches the mosaic of tiled roofs of the Pombaline Baixa. At the end of the day, the golden light on the Alfama hill draws a crowd: it is best to book a table.
Portuguese petiscos and classic cocktails
The kitchen serves non-stop from 11.30am to 10pm a menu of petiscos to share and more substantial dishes: goat's cheese puff pastry, peixinhos da horta, beef fillet prego, Portuguese cheese boards, lascas de bacalhau, and for dessert leite creme or pear in Carcavelos wine. For drinks, the menu lines up classic and reinvented cocktails between €13 and €15.50, gin and tonics, spritzes and a fine selection of Portuguese wines, port and Madeira.
From October to the end of April, a 5pm tea service (chá das 5) takes over in the afternoon, with scones, mini pastéis de nata and a glass of Madeira. The terrace also hosts private events.
