Topo Martim Moniz: São Jorge Castle straight ahead
A rooftop on top of a shopping centre
From Martim Moniz square, nothing suggests that a bar is hidden at the top of this small neighbourhood shopping centre. You have to go up to the sixth floor to discover Topo, which opened in 2015 and has since become one of the most popular end-of-day meeting places in Lisbon.
The terrace faces the hill of São Jorge Castle. The view takes in the square below, the narrow streets of Mouraria and the houses of Graça stacked up the slope. A covered section lets you stay sheltered, and the indoor room takes over when the evening goes on.
Cocktails, sharing plates and DJ sets
The cocktail list draws its inspiration from the great classics of music and is renewed in successive editions. The kitchen, open from 12.30pm to 11.30pm, offers dishes designed for sharing, perfect with a drink at sunset.
Music plays a central role: an in-house playlist early in the week, R&B and funk on Wednesday in the late afternoon, hip-hop on Thursday evening, house on Friday, electro and indie on Saturday, then an electro set on Sunday from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
Practical information
Topo opens every day at noon, until 1am from Sunday to Wednesday and until 2am from Thursday to Saturday as well as on the eve of public holidays. Bookings are made on the official website; for sunset, it is best to arrive early. Getting there: Martim Moniz metro (green line), on the square, tram 28E and several bus routes (711, 734, 736, 760 and 794).
