Aroma: Michelin-starred dining facing the Colosseum
The roof of Palazzo Manfredi
Palazzo Manfredi, a five-star hotel on Via Labicana, is a stone's throw from the Colosseum. A lift takes guests from the ground floor to its top floor, where Aroma's terrace stretches out. In winter, it is enclosed and covered, so you can dine there in every season without losing the panorama.
The Colosseum in the foreground
The view is the venue's signature: the amphitheatre rises directly opposite, golden at sunset, then illuminated after dark. On the right lies the site of the Domus Aurea; further away, a corner of the Vittoriano and, on the horizon, the dome of St Peter's can be made out. The intimate, hushed setting lends itself especially well to dinners for two.
The panoramic terrace of Palazzo Manfredi is also home to the hotel's bistro, a less formal option for enjoying the same setting.
Michelin-starred auteur cuisine
Awarded one Michelin star, the cuisine of chef Giuseppe Di Iorio revisits Roman tradition, with nods to Campania and more contemporary creations, based on carefully selected produce. Four tasting menus are offered, including a vegetarian one, and dishes can also be ordered à la carte. The cellar holds more than 600 labels, with pride of place given to champagne. The restaurant can be booked for exclusive use, notably for weddings.
Practical information
Aroma is one of the most sought-after tables in Rome: you need to book, by phone or online, well in advance, especially for a table at sunset. Expect a budget in line with a top fine-dining restaurant. Colosseo station (Metro line B) is a few minutes' walk away; the entrance is through the hotel, on Via Labicana.
