St. Andrea Wine & Skybar: the wines of Eger above Vörösmarty tér
At the start of Váci utca
The Skybar occupies the top floor of Váci 1, a historic office building on the corner of Vörösmarty tér and the start of Váci utca, Pest's great shopping street, within the area listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You go up by lift. Several terraces surround a glazed indoor bar: the view takes in the rooftops of the city centre, Gellért Hill and its Citadel, the Buda bank and the big wheel on Erzsébet tér.
A wine estate at the helm
The bar belongs to the St. Andrea estate, based in Egerszalók, near Eger, which also owns a fine-dining restaurant near Parliament. The Skybar opened in 2017. The wine list gives pride of place to the house's own cuvées and to Hungarian grape varieties, with advice from a sommelier, plus a fine selection of champagnes.
As for cocktails, the house creations often give the classics a Hungarian touch: the Hungarian Pornstar with apricot pálinka, the Temptation with plum pálinka, or a spritz made with the estate's white wine. A short menu of bar dishes accompanies the drinks, and the evening comes alive with live music or a DJ spinning vinyl.
