The Budapest Marriott Hotel lines the Danube promenade on the Pest side, in the Belváros district. Its 9th floor is home to Liz & Chain Rooftop Bar, which combines a colourful indoor lounge with a terrace open to the river. The panorama stretches across 270 degrees: the Royal Palace and the Castle District, Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion on the hill, and in the foreground Elisabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge, the two bridges that inspired the bar's name. At nightfall, their illuminations are reflected in the Danube.
Sustainable cocktails and sharing plates
The venue champions a sustainable approach: homemade syrups made with unused fruit, spirits from committed distilleries, local and seasonal ingredients. The signature cocktails are named after legendary creatures from around the world and pair, for example, poppy seed liqueur with Tokaji wine, or aged pear pálinka with smoky whisky. In the kitchen, a zero-waste philosophy guides a menu of small plates and dishes to share: duck liver terrine, sweet potato hummus, wagyu or tuna skewers, poke bowl.
Weekends and events
On Saturdays and Sundays, the bar opens at noon and offers "AperitivO'clock" from noon to 5pm, with spritzes made with Disaronno, Campari or Lillet Rosé, plus an alcohol-free version. The rooftop also hosts themed evenings, such as Halloween with a DJ, and can be privatised for events: opening hours may then change, hence the point of booking.
