Heritage Rooftop Bar: the Alster at your feet

A bar perched above the Außenalster

In the St. Georg district, the Le Méridien Hamburg hotel lines the eastern shore of the Außenalster, the large lake at the heart of the city. A glass lift takes you up to the 9th floor, where the HERITAGE group runs both a grill restaurant and a bar whose terrace overlooks the water. The eye drifts towards the sailing boats, the villas on the opposite shore and the church spires of the centre; inside, large picture windows keep the same view when the weather turns to rain.

Sunset over the Alster is a lovely time to come, and the afterwork crowd from the neighbourhood readily gathers here.

House cocktails and light bites

The bar menu lists a few house creations at €16, champagne cocktails at €19, a selection of gin and tonics at around €17-18, wines by the glass, draught beers and elaborate alcohol-free drinks. On the food side, the bar menu offers salads, tuna tartare, burgers or pinsa, and the neighbouring restaurant serves dinner every evening from 6pm to 10pm.

On the first Thursday of every month, the FEIERABEND evening turns the terrace into an afterwork party with a DJ, and themed nights punctuate the year, from Halloween to Boxing Day. The venue can also be hired for weddings, birthdays or corporate parties.

Practical information

The bar is open Monday to Thursday from 11am to midnight, Friday until 1am, Saturday from noon to 1am and Sunday from noon to midnight. No reservations: seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Card payment only, no dogs allowed. Smart dress is expected. The central station (Hauptbahnhof) is about a fifteen-minute walk away; the nearest U-Bahn station is Lohmühlenstraße (U1).
