Min Jiang: Chinese cuisine facing Kensington Gardens
A restaurant at the top of the Royal Garden Hotel
On Kensington High Street, the Royal Garden Hotel borders Kensington Gardens. Its top floor, the 10th, is home to Min Jiang, a Chinese restaurant whose large windows look directly out over the park. By day, the view drops down onto the greenery of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park; in the evening, the city lights take over. There is no terrace: everything happens behind the glass, whatever the season.
Peking duck, dim sum and cocktails
The cooking draws on Cantonese and Sichuan traditions. The signature dish is wood-fired Peking duck, prepared to a traditional recipe and served in two courses (£98 whole, £52 for a half). Handmade steamed dim sum and several set menus suit business meals and family gatherings alike.
The bar, which looks out over the gardens, serves wines, spirits and Asian-accented cocktails, mostly at £18.50, such as a ginger and lemongrass martini or a cucumber spritz. It's an option for a drink before or after dinner. For special occasions, the Chong Qing private dining room seats up to 20 guests.
Practical information
Min Jiang serves lunch from noon to 3pm and dinner from 6pm to 10.30pm. Bookings can be made online or by phone. An optional 12.5% service charge is added to the bill. The restaurant is inside the hotel, at 2-24 Kensington High Street, on the edge of Kensington Gardens. High Street Kensington Tube station (Circle and District lines) is a few minutes' walk away.
