Hutong: Northern China on the 33rd floor of the Shard
A lantern-lit setting above the Thames
The London outpost of a restaurant born in Hong Kong, Hutong has set up on level 33 of the Shard, just above Aqua Shard and Oblix. The décor stands in sharp contrast to its neighbours': red lanterns, dark wood furniture, latticed screens and stone lions at the entrance to the bar. Tables line the windows, which look out over the Thames, its bridges and the dome of St Paul's Cathedral, particularly striking once night has fallen.
Peking duck, dim sum and mahjong cocktails
The menu explores the cuisine of northern China, with some very spicy Sichuan-inspired dishes, dim sum and Peking duck served with pancakes. At weekends, the “Dynasty” brunch combines food, cocktails and resident DJs. At the Shanghai Bar, the new “Tale of Mahjong” cocktail list takes its inspiration from the famous Chinese game: expect to pay £18 to £21 for a cocktail and £14 for an alcohol-free creation.
