Grand Joanne Rooftop: an aperitif on the rooftops of Vesterbro

A renovated century-old hotel

On Vesterbrogade, the thoroughfare running from City Hall Square towards Vesterbro, a corner building has housed a hotel for almost a century. After a complete renovation, it reopened in 2023 as NH Copenhagen Grand Joanne, with 162 rooms decorated in a soft, feminine style. The hotel aims to be a meeting place for travellers and local residents alike: there is Joanne's, an Italian restaurant with an open kitchen, a bar in the lobby and Pinden, an old-fashioned bodega celebrating the culture of Copenhagen's traditional neighbourhood pubs.

The rooftop bar

Right at the top, the Rooftop Bar welcomes everyone, not just hotel guests: simply take the lift from the lobby. The terrace, planted with olive trees and beds of greenery, is lined with banquettes, lounge areas and tables under striped parasols. The view stretches across the rooftops of Vesterbro and the centre, with the City Hall tower, the church spires of the old town and the buildings of the station district. People come for a drink in the sun, in the late afternoon or before dinner.

Well located

Central Station (København H), Tivoli Gardens and City Hall Square are a few minutes' walk away, making it an easy stop before a night out in town or on arrival by train.

Terrace bar open to everyone; opening hours and season not published, so check with the hotel before you go, as the open-air terrace depends on the weather. Access through the hotel lobby, Vesterbrogade 9A; København H central station and København H metro station (lines M3 and M4) a few minutes' walk away.
