Albert: the hidden terrace on the roof of the KBR
A 1960s restaurant above the Mont des Arts
The Royal Library of Belgium, nicknamed the Albertine by the people of Brussels, towers over the Mont des Arts between Central Station and Place Royale. At the very top of the building, on the fifth floor, its renovated restaurant took the name Albert as a nod to that nickname. The decor combines contemporary design with original 1960s furniture and large picture windows opening onto the city. Outside, a 2,200 m² terrace dotted with planters and parasols offers a wide panorama over the rooftops of the historic centre, all the way to the spire of the Town Hall.
Seasonal cooking, from breakfast to brunch
Designed as a caterer's culinary lab, the kitchen favours organic, local and seasonal produce, with a menu that changes every month and always a fish, meat and vegetarian option at lunch. People also come for a pastry in the afternoon or for the all-you-can-eat brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, packed with plant-based dishes. Children are welcome and the venue is wheelchair accessible; pets, however, are not allowed in this public building.
In summer, the terrace comes alive in the evening
In summer 2026, Albert also opened its terrace in the evening, from Wednesday to Saturday, in aperitivo mode: cocktails, wines, beers, mocktails and street food to share, with DJs on selected Fridays. Entry was free with no booking needed, and drinks were paid for with tokens bought on site. The venue can also be hired for events of up to around 300 guests.
