Mr. Purple: the Lower East Side from the 15th floor
A lounge and two terraces atop Hotel Indigo
On Orchard Street, between Houston and Stanton, Hotel Indigo Lower East Side towers over the neighborhood's low-rise buildings. Mr. Purple, run by the Gerber Group, takes up its 15th floor: a roughly 3,000-square-foot room with purple banquettes and big picture windows, opening onto two terraces. The smaller one, on the east side, is made for more intimate get-togethers; the large west terrace, about 5,000 square feet, has its own bar and a pool, and looks out toward the Midtown towers and the Empire State Building.
Just below, on the 14th floor, The Club by Mr. Purple takes over on Fridays and Saturdays from 11pm, with a DJ booth and a dance floor.
Cocktails, spritzes and small plates
The bar pours twists on the classics, spritzes and house creations, at $20 to $23 a glass, along with a wide selection of spirits. The menu, served daily from 4pm to 11pm, runs from guacamole, hummus and burrata to crispy rice with spicy tuna or tuna tartare. The venue also hosts private events.
Practical information
Mr. Purple is open Monday through Wednesday from 4pm to 2am, Thursday from 4pm to 3am, Friday from 4pm to 4am, Saturday from 2pm to 4am and Sunday from 2pm to 2am. Walk-ins are welcome, but entry is at the doorman's discretion and polished attire is expected. A 20% gratuity is added for parties of six or more. Subway: Second Avenue (F train) or Delancey Street–Essex Street (F, J, M and Z trains), a few minutes' walk away.
