Jimmy: a lounge and a pool above SoHo
Atop the ModernHaus SoHo
On the edge of SoHo and Tribeca, the ModernHaus SoHo hotel (formerly The James) stands at the corner of Grand Street and Thompson Street. Its 18th and top floor is home to Jimmy, a bar-lounge with its entrance at 15 Thompson Street.
Inside, it feels like a living room: vintage and contemporary furniture, velvet banquettes and a working fireplace, all framed by windows roughly 14 feet tall. Outside, the pool deck is set with loungers during the day, then cocktail tables at night. The panorama takes in Midtown, Wall Street and One World Trade Center, the Hudson and the East River bridges.
Cocktails and vibe
Signature cocktails go for around $23 a glass, alongside a long whiskey list and a few small plates to share. Early in the evening the music stays at conversation level, then turns up on weekends. The space can be booked in part or in full for parties or corporate events.
Practical information
Jimmy opens daily at 5pm, closing at midnight on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday, 1am on Wednesday and Thursday, and 2am on Friday and Saturday. The lounge operates year-round; the deck and pool really come into their own in the warmer months. Booking online is recommended; otherwise, entry is up to the doorman, and the wait can be long on summer nights. Polished attire is requested. Subway: Canal St (A, C, E trains), a few minutes' walk away.
