Magic Hour: partying on the 18th floor of the Moxy Times Square
A two-sided rooftop
On 7th Avenue at the corner of 36th Street, the Moxy Times Square hotel tops its 18th floor with a rooftop that combines a large open-air terrace and a covered lounge, so it can stay open even in winter. Several bars, string lights and, right across the way, the outline of the Empire State Building: the stage is set. The venue regularly switches up its theme and decor; in October, for instance, it turns into "Dark Magic Hour" for Halloween.
The vibe is unapologetically festive, with DJs, games on big screens on Sundays and theme nights. The rooftop is 21+ only, except during weekend brunch, which is open to all ages. Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and the Broadway theaters are just a few blocks away.
Cocktails, pitchers and brunch
House cocktails run $17 to $20, and many come in pitchers for four to six people. On weekdays from 5pm to 6:30pm, happy hour at the bar means a $6 beer, $8 house wine and $10 spritzes. From the kitchen: sliders, chicken wings or shrimp tacos. On Saturdays and Sundays, from 11:30am to 3:30pm, brunch puts pancakes, sandwiches and salads front and center. The space can also be booked for private events.
