Above Eleven: the Nikkei rooftop on Palm Jumeirah

A viewpoint on the Palm's west coast

Above Eleven has taken up residence on the roof of the Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah, fourteen floors above Palm West Beach. Born in Bangkok, the brand has set up its Dubai address here, open to everyone and not only to hotel guests. On a Palm where the buildings remain low, the height is enough to clear the horizon: from the terrace you take in the skyscrapers of Dubai Marina and JBR across the water, the Ain Dubai Ferris wheel and the sea, where the sun disappears at the end of the day.

The venue is divided between an open terrace, sheltered by pergolas whose pillars evoke stylised trees, a bar and lounges, and a restaurant room with large picture windows facing the Marina.

Nikkei cuisine and pisco cocktails

The menu draws on the Nikkei tradition, born from the meeting of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines: sushi, ceviches and robata grills to share in the centre of the table. At the bar, the house cocktails draw on the venue's Latin American heritage, starting with pisco, the Peruvian grape brandy. Resident DJs accompany the evening from sunset, and a women-only night, with unlimited drinks for two hours, enlivens midweek.

Practical information

Open every evening from 5pm, until 1am Sunday to Thursday and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Booking online or on +971 4 666 1420, recommended at busy times. Families are welcome in the restaurant room between 5pm and 7pm; after that, as on the terrace, at the bar and in the lounge at all hours, entry is for over-21s only. Smart casual dress: no sportswear or beachwear, and for men no shorts or open shoes.
