Queb Rooftop: the Blue Mosque in front, the sea behind
On the rooftops of Cankurtaran
Akbıyık Street, lined with small hotels, cafés and restaurants, winds through the Cankurtaran neighbourhood, just below the Blue Mosque, in the Fatih district. At number 29, Queb Rooftop occupies the top level of The Byzantium hotel. From its terrace, tiled with blue patterns, the view takes in the six minarets of the Blue Mosque, the silhouette of Hagia Sophia and, on the other side, the Sea of Marmara where cargo ships lie at anchor, all the way to the mouth of the Bosphorus. Hagia Sophia is about seven minutes' walk away.
From breakfast to dinner
In business since 2011, the venue serves all three meals. In the morning you can have breakfast with a view; at lunch and dinner, the menu features steaks, vegetarian dishes and Turkish desserts, among others, with set menus for groups. A more intimate glazed indoor dining room takes over when the weather turns, and awnings shelter part of the terrace.
The moment to aim for
Sunset is the most sought-after time: the sun sinks over the Marmara as the monuments light up. It is best to book and ask for a table at the edge of the terrace.
