Ouzo Roof: Kalamış Marina at its feet
On the Asian shore, by the Sea of Marmara
Kalamış is a leafy residential neighbourhood in the Kadıköy district, on the Asian shore of Istanbul, between Moda and the Fenerbahçe peninsula. The Wyndham Grand Istanbul Kalamış Marina faces the marina, and it was on its roof that Ouzo Roof set up in 2014. The large picture windows look out over the hundreds of boats in the marina, the wooded headland of Fenerbahçe and the Sea of Marmara, where cargo ships sail by. The view is particularly beautiful towards the end of the day.
An Aegean table
The restaurant takes its name from the Greek aniseed spirit and champions the cuisine of both shores of the Aegean: fresh fish and seafood, homemade mezze, Turkish and Mediterranean dishes, with a fine rakı cellar and a wine and cocktail list. The dining room, beneath a glass roof decorated with suspended shoals of fish, seats 116, and the terrace 58. The restaurant also hosts weddings and receptions.
Kalamış Live
Four evenings a week, the restaurant's stage welcomes singers of Turkish and Greek music; on Fridays and Saturdays, set menus accompany these evenings. The programme is available by phone.

À la carte service from 3pm to 11pm according to the restaurant's website. Book online (Reservem app), via WhatsApp or on +90 216 400 00 30. Smart casual dress preferred. From the European shore, the easiest option is to cross by ferry to Kadıköy, then continue to Kalamış by taxi or bus.
