16 Roof: the Bosphorus from the roof of the Swissôtel
A terrace perched above Dolmabahçe
The Swissôtel The Bosphorus stands on a wooded hill in Maçka, in the Beşiktaş district, just above Dolmabahçe Palace and Mosque. On its roof, 16 Roof, formerly known as Gaja Roof, brings together a glass-walled dining room with an openwork ceiling, a wooden terrace fitted with heaters and an open-air lounge bar. The panorama is magnificent: the Bosphorus and its ferries, the Asian shore and then, on the horizon, the domes and minarets of the historic peninsula. At sunset, the sky blazes behind the historic peninsula.
Mediterranean cuisine, sushi and DJs
On the plate, the chef reinvents Turkish cuisine with Mediterranean and Asian influences: ravioli in an aubergine ring, creamy beef cubes with Parmesan, a warm Yedikule salad with Gorgonzola, and the sushi for which the house is renowned. The bar lines up wines from around the world, premium whiskies and cocktails. Every evening from 7pm, a DJ takes to the decks and the atmosphere builds as the night goes on, especially at weekends.
Dinner or just a drink
Dinner is served from 5pm to 11pm; after that, a menu of small bites and the drinks service continue until 1.30am. To enjoy the view at dusk, it is best to book and arrive early: the tables along the balustrade go quickly.
