On Sukhumvit Road, the Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit devotes its top level to the Cooling Tower Rooftop Bar. On the 34th floor, a vast, relaxed terrace opens onto the city: the towers of Asok and Sukhumvit stand out all around, and the lights of the metropolis take over once night falls.
The decor plays on dark marble, copper and coloured lighting that highlights the structure of the roof. Low lounge seating, high tables and a bar counter share the space, with the skyline as a backdrop.
House cocktails and sharing plates
The drinks list gives pride of place to creative cocktails devised by the in-house mixologist, local and imported draught beers, spirits and wines. On the food side, tapas and sharing plates go with the aperitif; this is a place designed for after-work drinks or a sunset drink rather than a full dinner.
Practical information
Cooling Tower is open daily from 5pm to midnight; last food orders at 10:30pm and last bar orders at 11:30pm. Smart casual dress: sportswear, tank tops, flip-flops and hotel slippers are not allowed. Alcohol is served from age 20; children aged 7 and over are welcome before 8pm if accompanied. In very stormy or windy weather, management may close the bar, which mainly happens during the rainy season, from May to October. The hotel is on Sukhumvit Road, near BTS Asok station.
