1838: the Savoy's roof on the Paradeplatz
A terrace above the Paradeplatz
The Mandarin Oriental Savoy faces the Paradeplatz, on the Bahnhofstrasse, right in Kreis 1. Its rooftop bar is named after the year of foundation of the Hôtel Baur en Ville, the establishment that already occupied the site. Wooden decking, a green wall, hedges and small potted citrus trees, a bar sheltered under an awning: the decor brings a holiday feel to the heart of the city. Lounge seating and armchairs face the rooftops of the old town, the spire of St. Peter and, on a clear day, the mountains.
Cocktails and small Asian plates
The menu pairs cocktails, mocktails, wines and a selection of sakes with Asian-inspired snacks, such as poke bowls, Thai-style ceviche or bao buns. People come up for a drink in the early afternoon, for an aperitif or to admire the sunset over the city. Payment is by card only, or on the room bill for hotel guests; the bar welcomes outside visitors just as readily.
