George Bar & Grill: the penthouse of the Ober building

On the top floor of the Ober building

The Ober building, on the Sihlstrasse, in the centre of Kreis 1, is home to, among others, Swiss Casinos Zürich. At the very top, on the fifth floor, George has taken over the penthouse. The interior is divided into several spaces: dining room, large corner bar beneath illuminated rings, lounge, library, intimate corner for two and private room, with a grand piano near the bar. The terrace, planted with potted pines and shrubs, runs along the façade and looks in three directions, towards the rooftops, the church spires and the hills that surround the city.

Grilled meats and cocktails

The restaurant is first and foremost a grill, with fine cuts of beef such as the T-bone or the sirloin served on the bone, but also oysters and champagne. The bar has its own cocktail menu: house signatures from CHF 19 to 24, negroni or bramble at CHF 19, dry martini or last word at CHF 20, sparkling cocktails from CHF 17 to 21. For groups of twelve or more and for events, the team puts together tailor-made menus, and a private room can be booked.

Practical information

The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and the bar stays open later in the evening; closed on Sunday. Opening hours vary from day to day: it is best to check them before you come. You can book a table for dinner, online or by phone, but not for a drink: at the bar and in the lounge, seats are taken on the spot. Tram to the Sihlstrasse stop, a stone's throw away, or around ten minutes' walk from the main station.
