La Terrassa del Duquesa: a balcony over Port Vell
On the roof of a hotel on Passeig de Colom
The Duquesa de Cardona hotel lines Passeig de Colom, on the edge of the Gothic Quarter and directly opposite the old port. On the sixth floor, its rooftop terrace welcomes hotel guests as well as Barcelona locals and passing travellers. The two small pools and the sun deck on the same level, however, are reserved for residents.
The port at your feet
The view plunges down onto the palm trees of Passeig de Colom, the masts of the marina and the buildings of Port Vell, with the tower of the port cable car in your sights. On the other side rises the Baroque dome of the Basilica of La Mercè. At sunset, when the sky turns pink above the docks, the spot lends itself as well to after-work drinks with friends as to a dinner for two.
Market cuisine and cocktails
The menu changes with the seasons and favours local produce and Catalan and Mediterranean recipes: Iberian ham, croquettes, anchovies from L'Escala, burrata, ensaladilla with tuna, red prawn rice at €29 (for a minimum of two people), an organic beef burger at €17 or beef fillet with foie gras. A selection of wines and cavas from the region complements a varied cocktail list. At the end of the day, a DJ livens up the terrace from 5pm to 8pm.
Practical information
The terrace is open every day from 12.30pm to 11pm, depending on the season and the weather: it is best to check before going up, especially in winter. Bookings online or by phone, and by email for groups of more than eight people. Drassanes metro (line L3) or Jaume I (line L4).
An elegant spot for watching the sun set over the port, a stone's throw from the bottom of La Rambla.
