Le Foundouk: candlelit dinner above the souks
A former caravanserai
The foundouk is the Moroccan equivalent of the caravanserai: a building where travellers stayed with their mounts and where merchants stored their goods. This one, in the Kat Bennahid district, not far from the Marrakech Museum, was fully restored in 2000. Since 2002, it has housed a restaurant and bar spread over several levels around a patio: a bar, an air-conditioned dining room and, right at the top, the rooftop.
The candlelit roof terrace
The terrace, open to the sky and planted with greenery, is lit by candles as soon as night falls. The panoramic view takes in the rooftops of the medina, and the hushed atmosphere is particularly suited to dinners for two.
Moroccan and international cuisine
The menu runs through the Moroccan classics – briouates, chicken and almond pastilla, tagines, royal couscous or tangia – with a few international dishes. Allow around 110 to 130 dirhams for a starter and 150 to 295 dirhams for a main course. Le Foundouk serves alcohol: guests have an aperitif over a cocktail and dine with a glass of wine. Set menus are available for groups.
