Café Arabe: aperitifs and pasta on the rooftops of Mouassine
A riad turned restaurant
Café Arabe opened in 2003 as a guesthouse serving meals to its guests, before becoming a fully fledged restaurant in 2007: its terrace was then redesigned around a bar. It occupies a house on Rue Mouassine, in the north-west of the medina, with a patio planted with bitter orange trees, an indoor dining room with a fireplace and, right at the top, the rooftop.
Views of the Koutoubia
Under large canvas awnings, banquettes and laid tables look out over the rooftops of the medina and the Koutoubia minaret. The terrace is in great demand at sunset; in summer, misters keep it a little cooler.
Pasta, tagines and cocktails
Two cuisines share the menu: on one side pizzas, pasta, risotto and Italian-style meat dishes, on the other couscous, tagines, tanjia and pastilla. Allow roughly 90 to 150 dirhams for a pizza or pasta, 140 to 300 dirhams for a tagine or couscous, and 70 to 120 dirhams for a dessert. Breakfast is served in the morning.
As for drinks, alcohol is served: selected wines, classic cocktails and house creations accompany the aperitif or dinner, right up to the roof. Fresh fruit juices are a good alternative.
Practical information
Open every day, with continuous service from late morning until late evening. Booking advised for dinner on the roof, via the website's form, on +212 5 24 42 97 28 or by WhatsApp. From Jemaa el-Fna square, Rue Mouassine can be reached on foot through the souks.
