A palazzo on the Riva del Vin
The H10 Palazzo Canova occupies a restored palazzo on the Riva del Vin, the quay in the sestiere of San Polo that runs along the Grand Canal just downstream from the Rialto Bridge. Its top level houses La Terrazza Bar, open to hotel guests and passing visitors alike. The space is divided between a covered lounge, where the bar counter is, and an open-air terrace edged with a stone balustrade, under large parasols.
The Grand Canal stretching away
From the terrace, the eye travels up the Grand Canal to the Rialto Bridge and the colourful façades on the opposite bank. Below, water taxis, gondolas and vaporetti cross paths non-stop. The tables right against the balustrade are the most coveted: it's best to arrive early to get one, especially as sunset approaches.
Wines, cocktails and small plates
The menu keeps things simple: Italian wines by the glass, cocktails, spritz and a few snacks to nibble on, in an elegant, hushed atmosphere. In the evening, the illuminated terrace can be spotted from the quays of the Grand Canal. In the morning, the terrace also provides the setting for hotel guests' breakfast.
Practical information
The bar is open every day from noon to midnight; the covered area means it can be enjoyed all year round, while the terrace is best savoured on fine days. No booking system is indicated for the bar. Smart casual attire is recommended. The Rialto Mercato vaporetto stop is about 250 m away and San Silvestro is very close by; on foot, allow around ten minutes from St Mark's Square via the Rialto.
