A grand hotel on the lungomare

Built in 1882 on Via Partenope, the Grand Hotel Vesuvio faces the Castel dell'Ovo. The tenor Enrico Caruso stayed here and died here in 1921. At the very top, on the tenth floor, the Sky Lounge brings together a solarium and a cocktail bar open to the sea. The floor below houses the Caruso Roof Garden, the hotel's gourmet restaurant, with its glass-enclosed dining room and its own terrace.

The Castel dell'Ovo almost at eye level

From the glass-lined terrace, the fortress set on the sea seems very close. The eye then travels towards Capri, whose silhouette stands out on clear days, while Vesuvius dominates the far side of the bay. Sunset, when golden light glides across the gulf, remains the most sought-after moment.

Cocktails, coffee and light lunches

The bar serves from morning until late evening. The menu brings together the great classics, from the Paloma to the Penicillin by way of the Mai Tai, and house creations inspired by the citrus fruits and plants of Campania. Expect €25 for a cocktail and €20 for an alcohol-free version. During the day, you can also stop by for a coffee with a Neapolitan pastry or a light lunch, from 12.30pm to 6pm: salads, mozzarella di bufala, club sandwiches or platters of cured meats and cheeses from the region.

For dinner, the Caruso Roof Garden offers contemporary Neapolitan cuisine by chef Emanuele Petrosino, by reservation only and with a smart casual dress code.

Practical information

The Sky Lounge bar is open every day from 10.30am to 11pm; the solarium is reserved for hotel guests. Reservations are not taken: tables are requested on arrival, and access for non-residents is limited at weekends and on public holidays. The terrace operates mainly in the warmer months and may close in bad weather or for a private event; the ground-floor bar then takes over. The hotel is on Via Partenope, a few minutes' walk from Piazza del Plebiscito.
