Alto Ristorante: the Duomo from the eighth floor
A dining room open to the city
Between San Babila and the Duomo, a plain glass door on largo Augusto hides the entrance to Alto Ristorante, set on the eighth floor. The green-toned dining room is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows and opens onto a wide covered terrace, protected by glass railings so as to obstruct the view as little as possible. The eye takes in the spires of the Duomo and a good part of the Milan skyline.
Creative Italian cuisine
The menu revisits Italian classics with a personal touch: vitello tonnato, risotto alla milanese with ossobuco, breaded veal cutlet, but also seafood pasta, tagliatelle with truffle and aubergine parmigiana. The cooking is by chef Fabrizio Latino; for a full meal, allow around a hundred euros per person. Behind the venue are restaurateurs who have been established in Milan for more than thirty years and who put the emphasis on sourcing produce.
The restaurant also hosts private events and corporate meetings.
Practical information
Alto offers a business lunch from Monday to Friday, from noon to 2.30pm, and dinner from Monday to Saturday; it is closed on Saturday lunchtime and on Sundays. Bookings are taken online or by phone, and are recommended for a table by the windows. Pets are welcome (one per table) but should be mentioned when booking. Getting there: a few minutes' walk from San Babila and Duomo metro stations.
For a meal high above the city a stone's throw from the Duomo, Alto combines careful cooking with an open view.
