Door in Athens: dinner facing the Parthenon, above Plaka
The roof of the Plaka Hotel
On Kapnikareas Street, a few steps from Mitropoleos Street and Monastiraki Square, the Plaka Hotel has entrusted its top floor to Door in Athens. There you will find an indoor dining room with large glass windows and a terrace where tables, light-coloured banquettes and planters face the city.
Directly opposite, above the tiled roofs of Plaka, the Acropolis and the Parthenon fill the whole horizon. When night falls, the rock lights up and the terrace is dotted with small lamps set on the tables.
Modern Greek cuisine and house cocktails
Executive chef Yiannis Stanitsas and chef Pola Kouravelou revisit familiar Greek flavours with fresh, seasonal produce: mezze, fish, grilled meats and vegetarian dishes, followed by homemade desserts. Notable dishes include a grouper fillet on celeriac cream with cherry tomatoes, confit olives and vine leaf sauce, or milk-fed lamb chops with stuffed courgette flowers and briam sauce. A menu of small plates also goes with the drinks.
At the bar, the signature cocktails, built around Mediterranean products such as mastiha or kumquat, cost €11 to €12; the classics range from €10 to €14. The cellar gives pride of place to Greek wines. Finally, the restaurant also hosts private and professional events.
