HAVN Rooftop: a giant roof beside the canal

An XXL terrace on a hotel roof

HAVN occupies the LOFTSTYLE Hotel, a large building in Vahrenwald set along the Mittellandkanal, a few kilometres north of the centre. The restaurant is on the ground floor, but the address owes its reputation to its roof: more than 1,000 m² of terrace laid out as a lounge, with banquettes, wicker armchairs and glass balustrades. In fine weather, this is where everything happens; in winter, the venue falls back on its lounge space.

A wide view over northern Hanover

Perched above the neighbouring buildings, the roof offers an open panorama over the northern districts, the trees along the canal and, further off, the city's towers. The show is there at sunset, when the terrace fills up for aperitif time. It is not the view of the old town, but the space and the open sky make the difference.

Cocktails, sushi and grills

The cocktail menu stays reasonable: expect €12 to €14 for a classic such as the negroni, mojito, espresso martini or gin basil smash, and a little less for a spritz. In the kitchen, HAVN focuses on reinvented sushi, truffle carpaccios, a burrata, Black Angus roast beef, grilled salmon, truffle pasta and a pistachio tiramisu. The venue also hosts seminars, company parties and private receptions.

Practical information

HAVN opens every day from 4pm, until late in the evening. The roof terrace is best enjoyed from late spring to early autumn, depending on the weather. Booking recommended online or by phone, especially on summer evenings. Access by Stadtbahn line 2, Großer Kolonnenweg stop, about 150 metres away; paid parking at the hotel.
