Zoku Paris: a hanging garden facing the Tribunal de Paris

A lounge perched above the Porte de Clichy

In a recent building on avenue de la Porte-de-Clichy, Zoku, a hybrid concept born in Amsterdam that blends lofts, coworking spaces and shared living areas, devotes its top level to a vast communal space. On the 8th floor, the lift opens onto a bar, a dining room with an open kitchen and lounges filled with plants and sofas, lit by large bay windows.

Outside, a light-wood pergola shelters brightly coloured rope armchairs, banquettes and low tables, among vegetable planters, aromatic herbs and strings of lanterns. The view sweeps over the contemporary buildings of the Clichy-Batignolles district and the stepped silhouette of the Tribunal de Paris, right opposite. Some of the vegetables and herbs served in the restaurant grow on this roof, as do the hops for a beer brewed in the building itself.

Cocktails, seasonal cuisine and live music

At the Kindred Spirits bar, the menu brings together coffees, spritzes, gin and tonics and great cocktail classics (paloma, pisco sour, mai tai, espresso martini) at €12 to €14, as well as mocktails, wines and craft beers from Paris. The restaurant The Living Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and, at weekends, brunch, built around seasonal cuisine with Mediterranean touches. On Thursday evenings, musicians and DJs liven up aperitif time on the roof, and the terrace can be hired for a group or an event.

Practical information

The rooftop is open to everyone, every day from 7am, until 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays. In fine weather, the action moves out onto the terrace; the rest of the year, the bar and the glass-walled lounges keep the view. There is no need to book for a drink; to eat, a table can be reserved online. Entrance at 48 avenue de la Porte-de-Clichy (Paris 17th arrondissement), then lift to the 8th floor.
