Le Bar à Bulles: a roof at the foot of the Moulin Rouge
The lofty bar of La Machine du Moulin Rouge
You enter via Cité Véron, a Montmartre cul-de-sac away from the bustle of boulevard de Clichy. The Bar à Bulles, opened in 2015, is on the 3rd floor of La Machine du Moulin Rouge, a concert and club venue in Pigalle. Entry is free, with no booking: settle into the large glass-roofed room with its vintage furniture, or outside.
A hanging garden beneath the windmill's sails
Above the bar, “Le Toit” is a wooden terrace planted with fruit trees, set against the red base of the windmill. The view here is more intimate than panoramic: you look out over place Blanche and the neighbouring roofs, with the sails of the Moulin Rouge close by. In summer, the roof hosts the Cinéma sur le Toit festival, with free open-air screenings on Wednesday evenings, booking required, with sound through headphones.
Cocktails, plates and brunch
The cocktail list remains affordable, at around €12 to €13.50, with house creations made with bissap or ginger and jugs to share. From the kitchen come home-made plates and boards of cheese and charcuterie; at weekends, brunch is served in several sittings. The venue also hosts DJ sets, exhibitions and talks.
