The People Paris Nation: an Italian-style rooftop above place de la Nation

A new-generation hostel with a view

On place de la Nation, right outside the metro exit, The People hostel devotes its top level, on the 6th floor, to a bar-restaurant that looks out over the city. The dining room, lit by large bay windows, features yellow velvet banquettes, caned chairs and gold tables, beneath glass-globe pendant lights and street-art canvases. It opens onto a long wooden terrace, furnished with sofas, parasols and plants. The venue is not reserved for hostel guests: anyone can come up for a coffee, a meal or a drink.

Place de la Nation at your feet

From the terrace, the eye plunges down onto the gardens of place de la Nation, completely renovated, and the Haussmann-era façades that encircle it. Further off, above the rooftops of eastern Paris, you can make out the Sacré-Cœur and the Eiffel Tower. The end of the day, when the sun sinks over the square, is the most sought-after time to settle in.

Pizzas, spritzes and DJ sets

The kitchen plays the Italian card: pizzas fresh from the oven, creamy burrata, Italian cold cuts and cheeses, gnocchi with gorgonzola and homemade tiramisù, at gentle prices. At the bar, beers, wines, spritzes and cocktails created on the premises go with the aperitif. On Sundays and public holidays, a sweet-and-savoury brunch with Italian touches takes over the rooftop, and every week DJ sets and concerts liven up the evenings. Part of the bar can be booked for a birthday or an afterwork.

Open every day from 7am to 11.30pm, and until 1am at weekends. A table can be booked from the official website; otherwise, you go up depending on the seats available.
