Le Perchoir Ménilmontant: the pioneering roof terrace of the 11th
A hidden rooftop at the end of a side street
On rue Crespin du Gast, nothing on the pavement hints at what goes on at the very top of this industrial building. A lift takes you up to the seventh and top floor, where in 2013 Le Perchoir opened one of the neighbourhood's first rooftop bars open to everyone. Up here you'll find a long counter clad in green zellige, banquettes piled with cushions, a pergola, planters of aromatic herbs and even a few grapevines.
An open view over Paris
From the terrace, the eye sweeps north as far as the hill of Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur, especially photogenic at sunset. On the other side, the view stretches over the neighbourhood's rooftops and chimneys to the Eiffel Tower, just visible in the distance.
House cocktails and Italian snacks
The bar menu showcases a dozen or so signature cocktails, from €13 to €16, made with house syrups and cordials, and the great classics are mixed on request. Mocktails at €9, draught beers and wines by the glass round out the offer. On the food side, the snack shack serves antipasti and filled focaccias until 11pm, courtesy of Vecchio, the Italian-American restaurant on the floor below, where you can also have dinner.
The venue can be hired all year round for 50 to 300 people, whether for a corporate party, a seminar or a wedding.
Practical information
The bar is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 6pm to 2am, except on evenings when it is booked for private events. The booking calendar opens three weeks in advance, and it's best to arrive early on busy nights. By metro, the nearest stations are Ménilmontant (line 2) and Rue Saint-Maur (line 3).
With its leafy terrace and views over the north of Paris, Le Perchoir Ménilmontant remains a top choice for a drink above the rooftops of eastern Paris.
