Les Muses de l'Opéra: a balcony over the Presqu'île
Taking the Opéra lift
On place de la Comédie, the Opéra de Lyon, recognisable by its great glass vault designed by Jean Nouvel, hides a bar on its seventh floor. You go up in the lift beneath the peristyle, then step out onto a terrace that runs along the statues of the Muses adorning the façade, which gave the venue its name.
Fourvière and the Hôtel de Ville on show
Opposite the terrace, the Hôtel de Ville spreads out its roofs and belfry, while the Fourvière hill and its basilica rise above the rooftops of the Presqu'île. This panorama in the very centre of town has made the terrace one of the Lyonnais' favourite spots at aperitif time, so much so that a queue often forms on sunny days.
A simple, affordable menu
Run by the Opéra, the bar favours local suppliers. Cocktails, served in 20 cl measures, are priced at €9.50, and a cocktail of the day is offered at €8. The menu also features mocktails, beer from the Brasserie du Pilat, a wine of the day by the glass and a glass of champagne. On the food side, until 10pm, you can graze on Italian charcuterie and cheeses, burrata, pala romana or a large mixed sharing platter.
Practical information
Les Muses welcomes guests Wednesday to Friday from 6pm to 11.30pm and on Saturdays from 2pm to 11.30pm; these hours may change with the season and the Opéra's programme. The bar does not take reservations: just turn up, ideally early in the evening. The Hôtel de Ville - Louis Pradel metro stations (lines A and C) are a few steps away.
Affordable, central and blessed with one of the most iconic views in the city, this lofty bar is a must for discovering Lyon's rooftops without breaking the bank.
