Rooftop de l'Hôtel de la Plage: the Port-Vieux at its feet
A boutique hotel by the water
On the esplanade du Port-Vieux, halfway between the villa Belza and the Rocher de la Vierge, the Hôtel de la Plage was given a makeover and reopened in spring 2022 as a four-star boutique hotel with around twenty rooms. Its roof terrace is not just for hotel guests: it can be booked like a restaurant, for a meal or for a drink.
The ocean and the Rocher de la Vierge
Under a pergola and behind a glass balustrade, the terrace overlooks the little Port-Vieux beach and its rocks. The panorama stretches across the ocean, the Rocher de la Vierge and the heart of town. Sofas, high tables and small round tables share the space, and people like to come in the evening to watch the sun set over the Atlantic.
A menu for sharing
The rooftop menu is all about freshness: chorizo croquettes, crispy prawns, avocado focaccia, a platter of Iberian ham or Pyrenean cheeses, sea bream ceviche or beef tataki, followed by a few main courses such as beef tartare, plancha-grilled tuna steak or veal axoa. Sharing plates start at €11 and mains are around €22 to €24. In the afternoon, from 3pm to 5.30pm, it is time for afternoon treats, with homemade crêpes and desserts. The season brings a refreshed cocktail menu.
The rooftop can also be hired for an event.
Practical information
The rooftop bar is seasonal: it reopens every spring, from 1 April, and operates depending on the weather; when the weather turns, service moves to the ground-floor dining room. Reservations are available from noon for lunch and from 6.30pm for dinner. Pets are not allowed. The hotel is at 3 esplanade du Port-Vieux, a few steps from the beach and the Rocher de la Vierge.
For a sunset drink above the Port-Vieux, this discreet rooftop is well worth a detour.
