Fleet: the Yarra from the 22nd floor
A former penthouse above Flinders Street
Opened in April 2024 at the top of the Vibe Hotel Melbourne, Fleet occupies former top-floor apartments reworked by the Paul Kelly Design studio. Inside, amber and dusky-pink tones, bespoke furniture and a large backlit bar; outside, a terrace runs all the way around the floor, with low sofas facing the glazing. A retractable roof and glass panels mean you can head up in any weather. From 68 metres up, the eye sweeps over the Yarra and its footbridges, the towers of Southbank and the CBD skyline, which lights up as night falls.
Rums, martinis and a nod to the sea
The name and the menu pay tribute to Melbourne's port heritage. The bar stocks more than 70 rums and around fifty gins, and the cocktail list, refreshed every season, hovers around A$26: a sour topped with shiraz mulled wine, pisco with pear and thyme, an espresso martini with mascarpone. On the food side, oysters, boards and small European-inspired plates. From Tuesday to Thursday, Social Hour offers lower prices from 4pm to 6pm; on Wednesdays, a duo plays live from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
Practical information
Closed on Mondays; open Tuesday to Thursday from 3pm to 11pm, Friday from 3pm to midnight, Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from 3pm to 11pm. Online bookings for up to 8 people, in two-hour slots; larger groups on request, with exclusive hire for up to 110 people standing. Minors are admitted until 6pm. Getting there: Flinders Street station, less than ten minutes' walk away; Flinders Street trams, within the Free Tram Zone.
