On the 12th floor of Hyde Melbourne Place, on Russell Street, Cleo is an Eastern Mediterranean-inspired rooftop restaurant and bar: a brick terrace pierced with large round openings, views of the city-centre towers, sharing plates and cocktails, from breakfast until late at night.

Cleo: the Eastern Mediterranean, 12th floor, Russell Street

A brick rooftop facing the towers

Opened in December 2025 in place of the former Mid Air bar, Cleo occupies the rooftop of Hyde Melbourne Place, a hotel that opened in late 2024 in the heart of the CBD and is also home to Marmelo restaurant and Mr Mills bar. After three months of works, the space brings together a glass-walled dining room, a covered gallery lined with long tables around a fireplace, and an open-air terrace framed by brick walls pierced with huge oculi. White metal chairs, striped sofas, potted olive trees and chequerboard tiles create a Mediterranean holiday setting, facing the city-centre skyscrapers.

Sharing plates and sunny cocktails

The food draws on the eastern Mediterranean and traditional cooking methods: matbucha dip, crispy prawns with green harissa or lamb cutlets with eggplant, for sharing. At the bar, affordable cocktails from A$22 to A$26, such as the Cleo Colada with white rum, Lillet, clarified pineapple and coconut, spritzes from A$18 and local or Mediterranean wines. Breakfast is served every morning and is open to all. From Thursday to Saturday, from noon to 3pm, the Cleo Mini Meal deal pairs a burger, bottomless fries and a spicy margarita for A$45. On Friday and Saturday evenings, DJs set up from 5pm to 11pm.
