The roof of the Hotel Per La
The Hotel Per La, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, is housed in the Giannini Building, a historic building on Olive Street, right in the Financial District. On its roof, a heated pool lined with loungers and white cabanas, a large sculpted mask, a colorful patio in front of a big mural and a room with a marble bar make up the setting of Bar Clara. The neighboring skyscrapers form a ring around the terrace, giving a very urban view, right in the heart of the skyline.
Cocktails and Mediterranean plates
The kitchen draws on California produce with a Mediterranean touch: harissa fries ($13), tuna tostada, harissa shrimp tacos or a burger ($28). The cocktails, $17 to $19, mix pisco and watermelon, mezcal and raspberry, or rum and banana, and a non-alcoholic frozen piña colada can get a shot of rum. On weekdays, from noon to 3pm, happy hour brings $13 margaritas and Collins cocktails and discounts on plates. On Sundays, the “Bar Clara Swim Club” adds a DJ and poolside entertainment.
The bar welcomes everyone, but poolside seating is reserved for hotel guests and day pass holders; either way, the lounge areas have the most open views.
Practical information
Open from noon; closing is around 8pm most days and at 10pm two nights a week, on a schedule worth checking before you go. No reservations, except for groups of six or more. Valet parking is $25 for the day for bar guests. 7th Street/Metro Center station (A, B, D and E Lines) is about 350 meters away.
