Château Carbide: a taste of the Riviera on the 24th floor
High up in an Art Deco skyscraper
The Pendry Chicago occupies the Carbide & Carbon Building, a dark green and gold Art Deco tower on North Michigan Avenue, steps from the river. Once a private space, its 24th floor has become Château Carbide, a rooftop open to hotel guests and Chicagoans alike. An indoor lounge in muted tones extends onto a large wooden terrace, planted with potted palms and shrubs, under strings of bulb lights. The view stretches between the towers toward Marina City and the glass skyscrapers lining the river.
Rosé, cocktails and small plates
The vibe channels the Côte d'Azur: rosé, spritzes and botanical cocktails, all $20, plus a few non-alcoholic creations at $16. The small plates menu is made for sharing: house-made chips, a trio of Mediterranean dips, tuna crudo, Ibérico ham toast, shrimp cocktail or mini roast beef sandwiches. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, a “Rosé on the Rooftop” package pairs a bottle of rosé with a charcuterie and cheese board for two ($60). DJs liven up weekend evenings during the warmer months.
The decor changes with the seasons: pumpkins and chrysanthemums in the fall, then the Winter Garden, from November 20 to February 27, with private chalets equipped with a fireplace and throws, for up to five people, bookable in 90-minute slots.
